CH 314 - Pharmacology Credit(s): 3 This course is designed to introduce pharmacologic concepts to enhance sound decision making, therapeutic interventions, and critical thinking for health care professionals. Students will explore the principles of pharmacology, including pharmacokinetics, pharmacodynamics, pharmacotherapeutics, lifespan and cultural factors, and legal and ethical implications. The focus will be on understanding the pharmacologic properties of major drug classifications and significant individual drugs, including generic and trade names, therapeutic uses, mechanism of action, interactions, and adverse drug effects, with special emphasis on nursing considerations. This course is suitable not only for majors in nursing and athletic training but majors in allied health, psychology, and other pre-professional health care majors. This course does not count toward a major or minor in Chemistry.
