Sociology Minor

A minor in sociology provides the student with an interdisciplinary curriculum for several majors at Millikin and is intended to compliment a student’s academic profile. The sociology minor is particularly well-suited for majors in criminal justice, psychology, human services, communication, political science, philosophy and history, as several of the courses in these disciplines are cross-listed in sociology, so that students are exposed to a variety of disciplines while studying in sociology.

Required Courses

A minor must complete the following courses:

SO 100 - Introduction to Sociology Credit(s): 3
OR
SO 200 - Social Solutions Credit(s): 3
SO 351 - Sociological Theory Credit(s): 3
SO 320 - Social Stratification Credit(s): 3

And two of the following courses:

SO 313 - Multiculturalism and Diversity Credit(s): 3
SO 326 - Economy and Society Credit(s): 3
SO 330 - Sociology of Gender Credit(s): 3
(or related upper level courses as approved by the Program Director or Department Chair)

In addition, the student must complete two additional elective courses in Sociology or from the following courses in other departments:

HM 320 - Poverty Credit(s): 3
HM 215 - Human Behavior and the Social Environment Credit(s): 3
PS 305 - Social Psychology Credit(s): 3
PS 334 - Psychology of Stereotyping & Prejudice Credit(s): 3
CO 332 - Gender Communication Credit(s): 3 or other courses approved by the Program Director or Department Chair.
