Biology Minor

Students may obtain a minor in biology by completing a minimum of 23 credits in biology. These credits must include the core sequence: BI 105 - Ecology and Evolution /BI 155 - Ecology and Evolution Lab , BI 205 - Cell Biology , and BI 200 - Genetics , as well as three biology content category courses numbered 300 or above. Additionally, taking both BI 206  and BI 207  can be substituted for one content category course numbered 300 or above. The following courses may not be used to meet Biology minor requirements; BI 102 - Topics in Biology ; BI 125 - Local Flora ; BI 130 - Environmental Biology ; BI 204 - Essentials of Anatomy and Physiology , BI 230 - Principles of Microbiology , BI 240 - Analysis of Biological Data , and BI 220 - Field Ecology /BI 320 - Field Ecology , BI 391 /BI 392 , BI 414 , BI 481 /BI 482 .

Students completing a Minor in Biology should:

  1. Understand and be able to apply the concepts of evolution and natural selection.
  2. Understand broad biological concepts, theories, and terminology.
  3. Be able to use and apply critical thinking to life situations.

Students wishing to complete a minor in biology should have their programs approved by the Director of the School of Biological and Environmental Studies.
