EN 232 - American Literature from 1900 to the Present Credit(s): 3 A survey of modern and contemporary American writers, examining their work within the cultural, intellectual, and historical contexts of the 20th and 21st centuries. The course covers works from across genres, including poetry, prose, and drama, and explores such topics as Naturalism, Regional and Social Realism, the Harlem Renaissance, Modernism, Postmodernism, and contemporary American writing. Along with close readings of the literature itself, the course also examines a broad range of cultural influences that have shaped American literature, including the fine arts, history, religion, politics, and popular culture.
